Peter Gansevoort was an officer of the Albany County Militia and a Brigadier General in the Continental Army. In the Revolutionary War he held Fort Stanwix (Rome, NY) against all odds during a three-week siege by Colonel Barry St. Leger and his forces of 1,700 British soldiers, Tories, and Indians.The Van Schaick Mansion

Peter’s marriage to Catherine (Caty) Van Schaick, daughter of Wessel and Maria (Gerritse) Van Schaick, took place on January 12, 1778, in the historic Van Schaick Mansion, our chapter house.
